Our Story
WE BOTH LOVED SHOP CLASS IN JUNIOR HIGH.
We didn’t know it then, but that simple joy of working with our hands was quietly laying the foundation for everything that would come later.
Stubby K Studio was built by Max and Mindie Kuhns, two veterans with a shared work ethic, creative instincts, and a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship.
What started as a small family woodshop grew slowly and intentionally into a studio where design, collaboration, and hard work come together every day.
For more than twenty years, the idea of building something lasting with wood lived in the background of our lives, surfacing in handmade gifts, home projects, and late-night workshop experiments.
Eventually, the dream demanded its own home.
Today, Stubby K Studio is a place where ideas take shape, sawdust flies, and long hours are fueled by laughter, problem-solving, and pride in doing things the right way.
We build furniture, signage, and custom pieces with the same care we always have. One piece at a time. One client at a time.
And Then There is the Next Generation.
Our daughter, Charlie Kuhns, brings fresh perspective, energy, and creativity into the shop. She keeps us grounded, pushes us forward, and reminds us daily why legacy matters. More often than not, her ideas are the ones that shape what comes next.
“Stubby K Studio is our family’s work, our family’s story. And you’re always welcome here.”
“What we build comes from our family. Who we welcome includes you.”
“From our hands to your home, you’ll always have a seat at our table.”
“This is a family shop, built on heart, and open to yours.”
“You’re not just welcomed here. You’re part of the story now.”
