Our Story
WE BOTH LOVED SHOP CLASS IN JUNIOR HIGH.
Stubby K Studio started with Max & Mindie Kuhns, a couple of veterans with sawdust in their veins and a dream in their pocket. What began as a family wood shop has grown into a place where creativity runs wild, collaboration runs strong, and projects somehow get finished between laughter and late nights.
“Our enthusiasm for woodworking and working with our hands has always been undeniable and occasionally surfaced in all sorts of gifts and toys created in our humble workshops. For over 20 years the idea of a woodworking studio lingered as a common goal.”
Of course, no story is complete without the next chapter—our daughter, Charlie Kuhns, who brings her own spark and energy to the mix. She keeps us honest, reminds us why legacy matters, and usually has the best ideas anyway.
And then there’s Andy Bertolozzi, a.k.a. “Andy from Corporate.” Every team needs that one steady hand who doesn’t put up with nonsense—and that’s Andy. He keeps us grounded while still rolling his eyes at our antics.
At Stubby K Studio, we build more than furniture, signs, and custom pieces—we build stories. Every board has a tale, every project has a laugh behind it, and every finished piece is made to last a lifetime (or a few).
Pull up a chair, take a look around, and welcome to the family.
